x = independently organized event
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TED Talks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized. (Subject to certain rules and regulations.)
TED is a nonprofit organization devoted to Ideas Worth Spreading. Started as a four-day conference in California 30 years ago, TED has grown to support its mission with multiple initiatives. The two annual TED Conferences invite the world’s leading thinkers and doers to speak for 18 minutes or less. Many of these talks are then made available, free, at TED.com. TED speakers have included Bill Gates, Jane Goodall, Elizabeth Gilbert, Sir Richard Branson, Nandan Nilekani, Philippe Starck, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Sal Khan and Daniel Kahneman.
The annual TED Conference takes place each spring in Vancouver, British Columbia. TED’s media initiatives include TED.com, where new TED Talks are posted daily; TED Translators, which provides subtitles and interactive transcripts as well as translations from volunteers worldwide; the educational initiative TED-Ed. TED has established The Audacious Project that takes a collaborative approach to funding ideas with the potential to create change at thrilling scale; TEDx, which supports individuals or groups in hosting local, self- organized TED-style events around the world, and the TED Fellows program, helping world-changing innovators from around the globe to amplify the impact of their remarkable projects and activities.

TEDxKofarFada is an independently organized TED event to be held in Bauchi City, Bauchi State Capital. It is one of its kind that will bring together some of the brightest thinkers and doers from around Nigeria and the rest of the world to gather, connect and establish collaboration to develop a blueprint on how to make small ideas to have big impacts in areas of governance, business, education, health, economy entrepreneurship and innovation among others. TEDxKofarFada would mark out the pathway to co-create and generate ideas. Ambition alone is not enough to bring about kind of impacts we want to see in our society. Together, we must convert ambition into practical ideas that would generate the right positive impacts in our society.
Just like other TEDx Talks, TEDxKofarFada looks to inspire the community through the power of IDEAS WORTH SPREADING. We are not looking at only inspiring our immediate community, we are looking at inspiring the world by leveraging on the over 36.7 million subscribers to the TEDx Talks YouTube Channel spread across all countries of the world
TEDxKofarFada was conceived by a group of young people with a passion for making impacts in Bauchi State and beyond. Our desired outcome is that TEDxKofarFada will be the birth of a nee small ideas that would make great impacts in people’s lives and the society. Our event seeks to bring people of all ages, gender, tribes, religions, political ideology to come together and co-create solutions through generation of ideas that will improve our communities.
TEDxKofarFada has come to stay and will be an annual event. The theme for the events would be based on factors influencing the community. For this edition, the theme adopted was SMALL IDEA…BIG IMPACTS, this was coined by the team because the first thing we have to do to improve the community is to unlearn and relearn then adopt a fresh idea no matter how small with a view to making a great positive impact.
About Bauchi City
Bauchi (nicknamed as Pearl of Tourism) is known for tourism and its arts and crafts which include beautiful, embroidered caps and gowns (known as babbanriga), fibre craft, and decorated calabashes. It is also very versatile in the production of metal works (such as weaponry), agricultural tools, pottery, and leather works.
What is now Bauchi State has been inhabited for years by various ethnic groups, including the Bolewa, Butawa, and Warji in the central region; the Fulani, Hausa, Kanuri, and Karai-Karai in the north; the Gerawa in and around the city of Bauchi; the Zaar (Sayawa) in the south; the Tangale in the southeast; and the Jarawa in the southwest. Religiously, the vast majority of the state’s population (~85%) are Muslim with smaller Christian and traditionalist minorities at about 6% and 9%, respectively.
Bauchi State span two distinctive vegetation zones, namely, the Sudan savannah and the Sahel savannah. The Sudan savannah type of vegetation covers the southern part of the state. Here, the vegetation gets richer and richer towards the south, especially along water sources or rivers, but generally the vegetation is less uniform and grasses are shorter than what grows even farther south, that is, in the forest zone of the middle belt. The Sahel type of savannah, also known as semi-desert vegetation, becomes manifest from the middle of the state as one moves from the state’s south to its north. This type of vegetation comprises isolated stands of thorny shrubs. On the other hand, the southwestern part of the state is mountainous as a result of the continuation of the Jos Plateau, while the northern part is generally sandy.
